Middleport Pottery Wedding Venue – A Photographer’s Perspective

There are some venues that instantly make you stop and stare. For weddings, Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent is one of those places. As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen a lot of venues – from grand country houses  to rustic barns – but Middleport is something different entirely. It’s raw, authentic, and absolutely steeped in history.

A Wedding Venue Full of Character

Middleport Pottery is a working pottery, with red-brick buildings that stretch alongside the canal, cobbled courtyards, original Victorian architecture, and the iconic bottle kilns standing tall as a reminder of its heritage. Photographing a wedding here feels like stepping into a story – every corner has texture, every wall has character, and the light works beautifully against the aged brickwork.

For couples who want something a little less ordinary, this is a venue that doesn’t try too hard – it just is. The industrial charm, mixed with the warmth of history, makes it the perfect backdrop for creative, relaxed, and stylish wedding photography.

The Spaces That Shine

One of my favourite parts of shooting here is how versatile the space is. You’ve got the atmospheric indoor rooms with exposed beams and factory details, which make for incredible ceremony and reception shots. Then step outside and you’re met with courtyards, canalside paths, and the pottery’s unique architecture. The pockets of light around the venue, day and night are insane!

From a photographer’s perspective, it’s a dream – because no two weddings here ever look the same. Some couples lean into the industrial vibe with modern styling and neon, while others bring in soft florals and fairy lights for contrast. Either way, the setting has a way of elevating everything.

Why Couples Love It

I think couples are drawn to weddings at Middleport Pottery, because it feels real. There’s a sense of honesty about the space – it’s not polished or manicured, but it’s beautiful in its own right. And on a wedding day, when emotions are running high and the moments matter most, that authenticity shines through in the photos.

Plus, guests always love it. There’s something about celebrating in a historic working pottery that feels memorable – people talk about it for years afterwards.

Final Thoughts

As a wedding photographer, Middleport Pottery is one of those venues that gets me genuinely excited. The light, the textures, the atmosphere – it all comes together to create the perfect canvas for storytelling.

If you’re researching your wedding at Middleport Pottery, I’d say: go and see it for yourself. Walk through the spaces, peek into the bottle kiln, and imagine celebrating here with your favourite people. As a wedding photographer, I can honestly say it’s one of the most visually inspiring venues in Staffordshire.

And if you do book it—well, I’d love to be there to capture it for you, obviously! 🙂

Emily + Dan

These beautiful souls chose Middleport Pottery for their wedding as they’re both so creative and were inspired by the buildings and history. Emily makes beautiful handmade jewellery, so there’s a real tie with this building and the nature of handmade pottery that is produced here.
They also made their wedding sword at a forge in Hereford, and I think it’s safe to say that everyone loved having a play! The inner D&D gamer came out in everyone a little bit that day, and it was so much fun!
