The Dower House Hotel Wedding Photos
It is so nice to back and able to blog again after this Covid-19 craziness!! Being in Derbyshire, it’s not very often we head over to Lincolnshire as a wedding photographer, but it’s such a nice area. Beautiful rolling pastures, filled with acres and acres of corn for as far as the eye can see. The small winding roads in between make it a slow but lovely drive. It’s safe to say we were really looking forward to taking wedding photos at the Dower House Hotel. Steph and Joe were the icing on the cake. Such lovely people!
Steph & Joe’s wedding was a great way to get back to weddings after lockdown. It’s a fab wedding venue. Although about 2 hours from us, it’s a fairly relaxing drive, through Newark to Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire. One of the roads was closed about 2 miles from the venue and we had to detour onto what was basically a dirt track. It didn’t occur to me that rally driving would be a basic requirement for the day! Still, it woke us both up after a long drive and we were set to go!
Getting married during the pandemic
So…. The wedding was going ahead with greatly reduced numbers as per government recommendations. Only 30 guests allowed, but it was a fab day none the less! Good on Steph and Joe for going ahead regardless!! I think it actually makes you focus on the people what really matter to you. It means that you truly have your favourite people around you on the day which gives a lovely, intimate atmosphere.
Steph had booked a room at the hotel for her bridal preparations and she got ready there with her bridesmaids and mum, along with local hair & makeup Sophia. The wedding ceremony was set up outside under a beautiful weeping willow with two gorgeous urns full of flowers by the very talented Fran from Limewood Flowers. And, as Steph walked down the aisle – everyone was watching – the couple had organised for the whole thing to be live-streamed by a good friend of ours, Adam Johnson – this meant that everyone that wasn’t allowed to come due to the pandemic restrictions could watch from home – what a fab idea!
Post-Wedding Celebrations
With the official bit done, it was time to kick back and relax. Enjoy the day in the garden. Eat the cananpés and have a great wedding breakfast with funny speeches (oh the best man, Lewis!!!!!!!). Also, no wedding is complete unless the guests have a slightly scary game where teams essentially throw blocks of wood at each other. I’ve no idea what it’s called, but it was both hilarious and petrifying at the same time. Then the whole day finished off with a silent disco – which never fails to make me laugh! We always join in and have headphones, but every so often we love to take them off and just watch everyone singing and dancing to essentially no music! Brilliant.
Steph and Joe are such a lovely couple and it was great to get to know them. We were supposed to meet up for a Connection Shoot in advance before the world went into meltdown, so it was lovely to finally get to know them. Despite all the covid craziness going on they managed to pull off an amazing day. We have so much fun hanging out with you guys and can’t wait to see what they have planned for their BIG party next year!
Here’s a little preview what we work on your full gallery – Turn it up LOUD, and enjoy 🙂
A little bit about The Dower House Hotel & Woodall Spa
This little gem of a wedding venue is set in the heart of Lincolnshire. It’s in a little town called Woodall Spa. Built at the end of the 19th century, the hotel retains a lot of its Edwardian features to give it it’s charm. Blink and you’ll miss it as its set in amongst 2 acres of woodland and gardens. It’s perfect for a round of golf too on the morning of your wedding as it’s sat on the edge of the Bracken National Golf Center, created by one of Britain’s foremost golf course architects, Donal Steel.
Woodall Spa
If golf isn’t your thing, Woodall Spa is a lovely little town to relax in. It is a designated conservation area so the Victorian character of the town still remains in abundance. Sit down at one of the many cafes for a lovely cream tea in the sun while you watch the world go by. Or take a wander down the parade of shops. As you’ve probably guessed from the name, it’s a former Spa town and is just 20 miles from the coast. It also has its own mineral spring and boasts to have the only remaining functioning back-projection cinema in the UK.
If all you fancy is a relax in the hotel, The Dower House has 21 spacious bedrooms with everything you can want for a good nights sleep. There’s also a restaurant downstairs. So, why not have all your wedding party stay there with you the night before and after your wedding. The perfect excuse to make a real party of the whole weekend!
