WHY CHOOSE ME?

TO PHOTOGRAPH YOUR ICELAND WEDDING ELOPEMENT

Life’s too short to spend it standing around for endless group shots or posing awkwardly in a venue that doesn’t feel like you. Maybe the idea of a big, traditional wedding isn’t your thing — you’d rather run off on an adventure and say your vows somewhere wild, with just your favourite people by your side.

If you’re craving an unforgettable wedding adventure, eloping in Iceland is hard to beat. Think black sand beaches that stretch for miles, jagged mountain peaks, and glaciers drifting silently past as you say your vows. And trust me — you won’t need to ask me twice to grab my camera and come along for the ride!

This is your day, your adventure — wild, real, and completely your own. Let’s make it something you’ll never forget.

If you want an Iceland wedding photographer who can guide you along the way to find the best spots to elope, I’m your guy!

WHAT TO EXPECT

FROM YOUR ICELAND ELOPEMENT PHOTOGRAPHER

It’s no secret that I love an adventure — a quick look at my Destination Weddings Gallery will tell you that. The French Alps, Rhodes, Skiathos, Madrid… all those places feed my soul and my love for exploring. But Iceland is something different. It’s wild, untamed, and breathtakingly beautiful — a place that’s claimed a piece of my heart.

Having photographed in Iceland a few times, I know where to find the most epic spots (and a few hidden gems too), yet it never stops surprising me. Go there with an open mind, and Iceland will give you more than you ever imagined for your elopement.

My bag is packed. Passport ready… Let’s go!

The Best Places in Iceland to Elope

1. Reykjavík

Reykjavík is Iceland’s capital city and a great place to spend a morning exploring coffee shops and sampling some of the gastronomic delights Iceland has to offer. Try the Lamb stew in a bread basket – Heaven.
If you’re brave, try the local delicacy of fermented shark – Not so heavenly.

Reykjavík Cathedral makes an amazing backdrop to your photos, that’s for sure.

2. Pétursey + Vik

Vík is one of Iceland’s most dramatic and otherworldly spots to elope — a tiny village surrounded by black sand beaches, towering cliffs, and the roar of the North Atlantic. Just before you get to Vik, just off the Golden Circle routes, are the soaring cliffs of Pétursey. An amazing mountain top location for your elopement.

3. The Black Beach

The Black Beach at Reynisfjara is nothing short of iconic — a place where the power of nature takes centre stage. With its jet-black sand, crashing waves, and striking basalt columns, it feels like another world entirely. Top tip: Get there early before too many tourists!

It’s the perfect backdrop for couples who want their elopement to feel wild, and cinematic — just you, the ocean, and the endless Icelandic horizon.

4. The Glacial Lagoon

The Glacial Lagoon, known as Jökulsárlón, is one of Iceland’s most breathtaking natural wonders — a vast, shimmering lake where icebergs break away from the glacier and drift slowly out to sea.

It’s like stepping into a dream — Curious seals watch in the water as they drift silently past, soft blue light reflects off the lagoon, and there’s a stillness that feels almost otherworldly. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and every moment feels vast and unforgettable — perfect for couples who want their elopement to feel wild, intimate, and truly once-in-a-lifetime.

The Glacial Lagoon was, without a doubt, our favourite spot in Iceland on this elopement adventure. It’s a place that captures the wild heart of Iceland, making it an unforgettable backdrop for a wedding filled with awe, adventure, and quiet beauty. Even the downpour of rain didn’t put a dampener on the ceremony. That’s just Iceland’s way of wishing you good luck for the rest of your life together.

PLANNING A WEDDING ELOPEMENT IN ICELAND

How Much Does it Cost to Get Married in Iceland

Honestly — how long’s a piece of string? Iceland is expensive, there’s no getting around it. Nothing comes cheap, but trust me, it’s absolutely worth it. You can go all out, bring a handful of your favourite people, explore the island, and turn it into one big adventure — or keep it simple with just your witnesses, your photographer and a true, stripped-back elopement. Either way, it’ll be unforgettable.

GETTING AROUND ICELAND ON YOUR ELOPEMENT

Getting to Iceland by plane is surprisingly easy — most international flights land at Keflavík International Airport (KEF), about 45 minutes from Reykjavík. Direct flights run regularly from major cities across Europe, the UK, and North America, often taking 2–3 hours from London or around 5–6 hours from New York.

Iceland is huge — Once you leave Reykjavík, it’s not the kind of place you can easily explore by public transport. You’ll need to hire a car, and preferably a sturdy one, as some of the roads can get pretty rough — especially if you’re chasing those epic elopement spots off the beaten track.

It’s also quite spread out, so it’s not uncommon to drive for a few hours between locations for photo opportunities.

WHERE TO STAY in ICELAND

Iceland isn’t the kind of place where you can just base yourself in Reykjavík and travel out each day — everything’s too spread out for that. Instead, make it part of the adventure by booking one of the many secluded Airbnb cabins dotted around the country. That way, you’ll be close to your dream elopement spot and get to experience Iceland’s wild beauty right on your doorstep.

Imagine waking up on your wedding morning, watching the Icelandic sun slowly rise as the mist drifts away and the rugged mountains emerge in the distance. It’s quiet, raw, and breathtaking — the kind of moment that stays with you forever. This is what it’s all about

Accommodation Ideas

  • Umi Hotel – 100miles from Reykjavík, along the south coast, just 2km off the circle road. With views of the rugged southern coastline as well as Eyjafjallajökull volcano
  • A modern Air B’n’B cabin in Akureyri — a design-led cabin for up to 4 people in north Iceland with unspoilt views of the Northern Lights
  • A secluded 7-guest lodge in Reykholt – A cosy base, just east of Reykjavík – We stayed here for a couple of nights and it was a great base for exploring attractions such as Skógafoss Waterfall
  • Magma Hotel – individual lakeside lodges for up to 32 guests in the south of Iceland, close to Kirkjubæjarklaustur
