Bridal preparations
We have been looking forward to a Redhouse Barn wedding for so long now. There is so much scope for beautiful wedding photos at this multi award-winning venue, so it was lovely when this day in August finally came around.
We joined Jess at her parent’s house to see everyone for their morning hair and makeup preparations! Three bridesmaids, two very cute flower girls, mum & dad, hair & makeup and a few relatives – it was a full house! Lots of happiness and laughs, a bit of entertainment from the littlest flowergirl – all good times. As soon as everyone was ready, the bridesmaids headed off to the church to meet Father Simon. Jess kept her lovely groom Kieron waiting for 15 minutes or so (brides prerogative eh!!?) before making her arrival in a friend’s white Jag as her wedding car. The wedding ceremony was a full Catholic affair in this beautiful church and the bride & groom got covered in confetti on their exit although it was so windy, who knew where the majority of it went!!
A wedding reception at Redhouse Barn
On the journey from the church to Redhouse Barn, it rained so hard we could hardly see where we were going! But as so often happens, the rain eased off at the venue and we were able to quickly do some photos for 5 minutes before it closed in again! We took a quick wander around the gorgeous gardens for a couple of photos before the rain came pouring down again and we all ran inside sharpish!! Living up to their awesome reputation for great food, a really tasty dinner was served. This was followed with speeches from Jess’s dad, the groom Keiron and finally, each of his three best men!! Lots of great photos from the bride & groom’s past.
The evening wedding reception
Everything was running crazy late (what wedding doesn’t, right!?). Who cares! Jess & Kieron were busy mingling with all their guests and taking turns in the photo-booth, so we spent the time with the reception guests, preparing for the cake cut and first dance. And then finally time for the big surprise – fireworks!!

The history of Redhouse Barn
The land the farm was built on was originally part of a very large country estate and during the 13th Century, it was owned by the Savage family. It formed the hamlet of Astwood (literally meaning ‘east wood’ of Wychbold), which was part of the Forest of Feckenham in the Middle Ages. The entire area was very densely wooded and the names of local villages reflect this fact – Elmbridge, Woodgate and Rashwood nearby. Early documentation of the farm, back in 1779, states that the farm was owned by a Ann Purshall. Although some research into the elm beams and pegged rafters of the building suggest an earlier build date. Elm was regularly used in buildings in the area however it is not possible to accurately date them, unlike oak which has regular rings in the wood which can be easily counted.
In 1865 to John Corbett bought the farm and 70 acres for £1400 from an auction in Droitwich. During this time, the farm was occupied by the Nash family for over 100 years, who paid a rent of £90 for the farm and land. In 1881, it was occupied by the Pinches family, who worked as Blacksmiths & Pansmiths. During the development works which started on the Barns in 2008, old blackened fired walls were found – situated in the current Lounge Bar reception area. Well worn brick thresholds and handmade brick floors from the ‘smithy’ were re-used in the rear courtyard gardens by the current granite fountain. Records show the farm was then occupied by Rev.Dan Wrigley and from the 1900’s William Solven a Coal Merchant and his family until it was sold to William Reeves of Stoke Works – a Rate Collector, who purchased the farm for the princely sum of £164! What an absolute bargain!!
It was subsequently sold in 1955 to Francis ‘Jack’ Clements of the local shop fitting firm Clements & Street. Jack modernised the farmhouse and built steel framed/blockwork piggeries, which his son managed. Finally, the farm was sold to Peter & Muriel Winter for in 1970 and the family have been here ever since!
The renovation of the farm to a wedding venue
It was important to the current owners, that the barns were as sustainable as possible; that they were unique and beautiful, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. A venue that made life easy for couples and their families by being well designed. A good flow and a relaxed feeling without the need to ‘dress’ the venue as the gardens and beautiful buildings do all that!
They have used renewable energy, PV panels, boreholes for water supplies, low energy lighting and green oak for the new barn.
For the wedding ceremony, they have the rustic simplicity of the redbrick barn, through to the contemporary bar and relaxed lounge area, moving into the beautiful and elegant wedding breakfast in the main timbered barn. Finally, once the evening arrives, they transform the timber barn into a beautiful night-time space.
The buildings are nestled within the Worcestershire countryside with the owner’s beautiful gardens closeby, this wedding venue is perfect for your wedding day!!
