Emma & Paul’s tipi wedding at The Lingholm Estate in The Lake District

For a wedding in the Lake District, there isn’t’ much more you can ask for, for your photography than The Lingholm Estate. Then, throw in a tipi on the edge of the Derwent Water and you really have got something stunning. Quote often, if a venue is a little plain or the wedding is slow you have to be create with the photography… Well not here at the Lingholm Estate as it’s a perfect wedding venue for photography as a Lake District Wedding Photographer.

When Emma and Paul first told us that their wedding was in a tipi, in March, in the Lake District we were filled with a mixture of huge excitement and a little bit of anxiety. We all know that tipis are awesome in the middle of summer in a beautiful sun-kissed field the spectacular golden hour light. However, with the British weather being as crazy as it is, who knows what March would hold. Would it be a beautiful spring day? Would we be 5 feet deep in snow? Who knows… All we did know was that Emma and Paul were super chilled out, awesome to be around and it was going to be a fun day no matter what.

As it turned out, Emma and Paul totally lucked out with the weather. Just a week previously the Lake District was covered in snow. However fast forward a few days, the snow had melted and their wedding day turned into one of the most beautiful sunny spring days we’ve seen in ages. As crazy as it sounds, I even picked up a little bit of sunburn!!! Crazy right!?

The Location

So, we packed our bags, left our Derbyshire home and headed up the M6 motorway, destined for the Lake District. One on the UK’s finest National Parks.

Did I also mention that the site for their tipi was in one of the most picturesque spots in the country? The Lingholm Estate. Nestled on the banks of the Derwent Water is a stunning grade II listed Victorian house, built in 1873, surrounded by panoramic views of Lake District Fells. With space in the grounds, why would you not want a tipi there? It’s stunning. Honestly, we could have photographed all day long, and then some. So Emma and Paul upped sticks and left Derbyshire with their fell walking shoes in hand (these two are superhuman people who run up mountains, for fun!) and carted everybody up to the Lake District for what was to become one of our most favourite weddings so far.

We started the day well. Driving up the extra long driveway, hanging out of the sunroof with a camera in hand (something for the Stop Motion video), we were met by Paul as he wandered the grounds looking for something to do. As soon as we arrived he promptly told us there was a bag of presents waiting for us upstairs. We’d not even done anything yet and already received a present. How amazing is that?!!! Thanks sooooo much guys!!!

The Wedding on the Lingholm Estate

Emma was getting ready upstairs with her mum, sister and bridesmaid. Everything was super calm and relaxed – just how we like it on a wedding day. With Emma’s hair and makeup finished and looking beautiful, it was time to head downstairs for the ceremony. With all the legal bits done and Paul and Emma now officially husband and wife we headed outside into the sunshine for cocktails and canapés! They’d left lots of time to chill out before dinner so it gave us a great opportunity to explore the edge of Derwent Water and do a few cool photos.

By now, we could all smell the amazing food cooking from Karen Rhodes Catering, so we all headed into the tipi ready for an amazing dinner and speeches. Honestly, Karen – One of the nicest wedding meals we’ve had in ages – thank you!!

Speeches were great too – Lots of stories and memories bringing tears and laughs all round!

Now on to our favourite part of the day – The party time and evening photos. We love to explore our venues in the evening. The light has completely changed and everything looks different and gives us a great opportunity for some cool, interesting night time portraits. We love it when our couples come exploring with us. Guided by just our iPhone light, we can always find something to photograph in the dark!

Then…. we PARTY!!!!! Enough said!!!
