James & Emma’s glam wedding at The West Mill
Emma + James
Where to start with this amazing couple!! Well, they booked us back in 2017 after seeing our work in a local magazine and it turns out that Ben’s dad taught Emma to play the clarinet when she was a child too! Then James ended up replacing the boiler at our house in Derby – total coincidence as it was all organised by the letting agent – it’s such a small world and I’m so glad it is because these two are amazing – It’s been awesome getting to know them both and we can’t wait to get to know them even more!
So anyway Emma & James have been together forever. James joined the Swinson household 17 years ago and quickly became known by Emma’s parents as “the guy that eats and drinks like a buffalo!!” Not rushing into it – that’s what we like. They loved the West Mill from the first moment – how could you not! But the day started off at home…
When we arrived at Emma’s parent’s house, it was FULL!! Emma and her lovely bridesmaids, mum, lots of children, hairdressers, makeup artists – even Nana turned up to get her hair done. Thankfully it’s a beautiful house with lots of space. There was also Emma’s dad… looking a little lost amongst all those women! But never fear Graham – we had plenty to chat about – Graham is a builder and we are trying to build our own house so we had lots of conversations about insulation, steel frames and roof coverings! Exciting stuff! We particularly loved the dedicated toast cupboard Graham – we might have to steal that idea.
So Emma was super organised and had everything laid out upstairs – dresses, shoes, page boy outfits, jewellery, perfume. A woman after my own heart – nice one Emma!
The West Mill, Darley Abbey
Once at the West Mill, there wasn’t much time. Emma needed to get her dress on and do all the final touches. James had arrived with all his men and guests were running in under umbrellas as the heavens had opened.
The rest of the day was just amazing, Emma looked so totally glamorous in her Justin Alexander dress. We see so many beautiful wedding dresses, but this one was another level. It was a real pleasure to see such a different gown and she pulled it off perfectly. The rain disappeared just in time for a drinks reception in the courtyard, beers in the bathtub and The Nut Bar was a huge hit!
Speeches were great and dinner was served by one person at each table, complete with naked aprons. After a little posing for James & his groomsmen in one of the booths, Emma & James took a little stroll over to the river before the band came on and the party got started. Emma even had a second dress to make dancing easier – talk about Marilyn Monroe!! Just beautiful!
Thank you!
It was an amazing day, Emma is one of the most smiley, friendly, happy people I’ve ever met – she is truly beautiful inside and out! James is the perfect match for her – he is tall, dark & handsome and they both make lovely parents to Mara & Paddy.
Here’s to you guys!! 🍾🥂
