Hotel Hougue De Pommier Wedding Photos | Jill & Greg
Been looking forward to officially being a Guernsey Wedding photographer – We photograph a lot of weddings, and it’s no secret that I LOVE weddings…. But this weekend was on another scale. I LOVE LOVE LOVE’d it!!!
Why we love the Channel Islands
We hold a secret little place in our hearts for the Channel Islands. Hannah and I got engaged on Jersey and we try and head back there as often as we can. However, Guernsey we’d never visited before. So when Jill emailed asking if I’d travel there from the UK, I had to think about it for about a millisecond before saying, “hell yes”!!
Friendships
One of the things I love most about weddings, other than creating epic portraits of people, is getting to know our couples a little bit and seeing what’s really important to them.
Right from the start, it was very obvious that their friendships are super important. They have an amazing bunch of friends who’d travelled from all over the world to be there with them on this little island. The atmosphere was amazing. A real mixture of happiness and excitement in anticipation of what was set to be an awesome day. There was lots of emotion too. Sadly Greg’s best man Rob was no longer with us and this sad passing really hit home about what is important at weddings. It’s not all about the frills and the extras, it’s about spending time with those people who you really love and want to be with. This wedding was filled with bucket loads of close friendships. As a result, everyone was there to have the most amazing day ever!
The day has arrived
The day started as I hopped off the “Puffin Express”aeroplane. I headed to the beach to scout some locations for Jill and Greg later that day. Seeing the waves crashing on the rocks with the hazy sun in the background, I was totally inspired. I couldn’t help but keep everything crossed that we’d have a spare few minutes later in the day to take a secluded walk on the rocks together for some photos.
An Outdoor Ceremony
The ceremony area was looking beautiful, set in the grounds of the Hotel Hougue de Pommier. As I arrived, Jill and her girls were pretty much ready to go. Greg, his family, friends and his groomsmen were ready and waiting… life was about to change, forever! Jill strolled out. She was looking a million dollars and took the long walk down the aisle with her dad to meet Greg. After some laughs, some singing and a few tears throughout the ceremony (me included!. They were married and the day had begun!
Everyone mingled in the beautiful hazy sunshine for a while and then we took a short drive out to those amazing rocks I was so looking forward to seeing again. This time, I had a camera in my hand and an amazing bride and groom wandering in front of me. It was kinda perfect! However, it couldn’t last long… we had a party to get back to!!! We headed back and joined all the guests for drinks, ice-cream, apple desserts, giant Jenga and a stick throwing game (not sure of the name!!) before dinner was served, with lots of hilarious speeches in between courses.
Party time
Before we knew it, it had gone 10pm and it was definitely time for the drinking games to start (totally loved Looping Louie btw). The dance floor opened and the party started. I love it when you’re having such a great time, you totally lose track. Next time I looked at my watch, it was midnight!
Guys, thank you for treating me like a friend. For letting me get close to you and trusting me to capture your day as I saw it, and for providing me with my new Christmas drinking game!
