A new wedding venue in Derbyshire | Grangefields

We are very excited! A new wedding venue in Derbyshire. In fact so close to where we live, that we drive past it most days on the way to Derby! AND it’s a Cripps & Co venue!!

Oh my days!! 😃

A new wedding venue in Derbyshire!

So Cripps & Co own some of the most beautiful venues in England. They have a passion for beautiful buildings and excellent food! They specialise in finding historic but neglected buildings, then converting and refurbishing to the highest standards. Attention to detail is key and they really nail it. They have 7 venues at the moment, Grangefields will be their 8th. We already work regularly at Shustoke Barns (it’s like our second home – we LOVE it), Hazel Gap and we have our first booking at Thorpe Garden this year. Honestly, we can not wait to photograph at Grangefields.

The location

Now we have Grangefields opening on our doorstep – we couldn’t be happier! It is in the Derbyshire village of Long Lane, which is on the little country road between the A52 and the A515, between Ashbourne and Derby, close to the tiny villages of Alkmonton, Thurvaston and Longford.  Tucked away in the Derbyshire countryside, it is surrounded by open fields. What a spot! SEE MAP

The history

Grangefields was a former farm, then an equestrian centre. Now it’s owned by the fabulous Cripps & Co

The wedding breakfast

Now, the food! It’s fair to say that we eat an awful lot of wedding food. Some good, some not so much. If you know us, you’ll know we are huge foodies. And we always say that Cripps is the best in the business. They have French rotisseries and huge BBQs. Amazing roast potatoes. Gravy to die for. Little canapés that leave guests chasing the servers for more. Food we would be happy to pay for. No soggy veg and bad service here!! All served up in the cosy warm barns, with lots of beautiful light, underfloor heating and a truly magical atmosphere for a wedding breakfast!!

What you need to know

They are planning to open the doors officially for weddings, from 1st August 2021 onwards. The best thing is that they have the capacity for large weddings!

  • 140 person capacity – ceremony in the Oak Room

  • 180 person capacity – ceremony in the Dutch Barn or outside in the Sheltered Courtyard for an outdoor civil ceremony

If you prefer a church service, there are lots of pretty churches nearby in Long Lane or Trusley for example. As well as lots more in the local vicinity.

For the wedding breakfast, they will have….

  • Open kitchen with indoor BBQ, Rotisserie & a Pizza Oven

  • Asado grill in courtyardBBQ wedding food open fires

For the evening reception, there is…

  • State-of-the-art Funktion-One sound system

  • Late night license until 12:30am

Accommodation

They are lots of great places to stay in the local area; The Cow at Dalbury Lees is a pretty, boutique place. Lots of Air BnBs, hotels including a Travelodge in Ashbourne and lots of hotels in Mickleover and Derby – all a short taxi ride away. 😀

So why do we love to photograph there?

Well, first things first, it’s no secret that we like a bit of atmosphere in our wedding photos. We’re not the sort of photographers who will only take pictures in natural light. No no no!! We’re not afraid of the dark and love being able to create wedding stories that transition from the beautiful natural daylight, through into the evening darkness. It’s safe to say that Grangefields will be right there along with us. As the sun goes down past golden hour, the twinkle festoon lights come on and the venue gets lit beautifully, making it a truly inspiring place to create some stunning wedding portraits. With a flash or two and some wide open apertures on the lens, it really does look dramatic, beautiful, stunning….and a whole host of other words to describe how amazing it is! 😍

We also love a Cripps & Co party. They’re always off the hook! With some amazing local DJ’s or bands, and a whole load of space to party in the big hall, you can pretty much guarantee an amazing party with all your evening guests. There’s nothing we love more than getting down and dirty on the dance floor until the wee hours, partying hard with you guys, documenting it every step of the way!!

Come on, let’s grab a drink, and hit the dance floor and sing until we lose our voices!!
