I am a Derbyshire family photographer, creating natural imagery of your and your nippers, that are natural and fun for you to look back on when you’re all old and wrinkly!

NEWBORNS

If you’re brand new parents, life must be pretty crazy for you right now. Being at home is the most natural way for you guys to be in front of the camera with your babies – just being a real family for the first time. We want to catch you guys loving them, nursing them, holding them – laughing and crying together. Capturing your life right now, at this very moment in time, even if you feel like you’ve no idea what you’re doing and haven’t figured it all out yet – those are the moments you’ll want to remember in 20 years time, when they’re all grown up and getting married themselves.

FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY ISN’T JUST ABOUT THE KIDS. LET’S ENSURE WE CAPTURE THOSE IMPORTANT PICTURES OF PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS AND LONG LOST AUNTIES BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE.

Getting all your family together is always tricky… it usually happens at weddings or perhaps on milestone birthdays. We know the importance of capturing the whole family together – from the babes in arms, to tearaway teens and grumpy grandads! Which is why we offer our family shoots to ensure we spend a little bit of fun time grabbing timeless pictures of you all together. Whether you want a picture of gran holding the latest edition to your family, or your brother from Australia who you havent seen in ten years is paying a visit, we’ll be there to ensure we capture the happy tears, the laughter and the tender reunions.

LOCATION

Location is key. If you’ve got a newborn, life is probably a bit nuts right now. There’s nothing more relaxing than being at home, where all your stuff is, knowing you’ve not got to pack up and leave with a newborn baby in tow. It usually gives the nicest photos as everyone is more natural at home, so I’m happy to join you there. If the kids are a little older, let’s go and find somewhere to play. They’ll enjoy it way more.

What if my house isn’t huge?

Honestly, whether you’ve got a mansion or a small London flat, it doesn’t matter. Often, all I need for beautiful photos is a window, somewhere for you guys to sit and a quiet corner to hang out with your new baby. There’s something special about you guys just being you, in your own home with your newborn. So don’t get the decorator in, give the cleaner a week off and don’t worry about what the house looks like – We can make great memories in most places.

NO POSING. NO PROPS

I’m not the sort of photographer that’s going to wrap your baby up in a blanket, tie a flower on their head and prop them up in a basket, nor will I pose them naked on a pile of suitcases. That’s totally not my style.
I want to create REAL photos. Photos that are true to life. Photos that might not make your child cringe when he or she is 18 years old, and you bring out the “family photo album”. For me, natural photos of you guys at home with your newborn are completely timeless. No posing, no gimmicks. Just beautiful images that will never get old.

You Wear It Well!

What should you wear for your family photoshoot? Have a think about what vibe you want from your shoot.
If it’s just the two of you and your newborn, casually hanging out at home, let it be just that. Muted, neutral tones work well. Nothing too bright, nothing too colourful (unless that’s the vibe of the shoot), just whatever you feel comfortable in.

If the kids are older and we’re going to play somewhere, avoid too many extra layers and absolutely avoid Dad’s favourite football shirt. Coats, bags and “stuff” are just extra things to hold. Let’s keep it nice and natural. Let the kids roam free, jump in puddles or throw leaves at each other as they hit the “big slide”. By all means dress them in your favourite outfit, but don’t worry if it gets a bit muddy – That’s all part of the fun.

FAQ

Do I need to tidy?

Honestly, don’t stress about it. Life is probably hectic enough with a newborn. Throw things in cupboards so there are a few clutter-free spaces at home, and apart from that, don’t worry about it.

What if my baby won’t settle

It’s not a problem. Most of the time, a new baby will get a bit fussy at some point during the shoot. That’s natural. In fact, it’s totally ok – It gives me a chance to take more candid shots of you guys figuring out how to be the new parents of a screaming baby. Often moments of feeding, nursing and soothing make beautiful photos, so don’t worry. We’ll build in time to take a break when needed, so we can take all the photos we need.

WHAT TO BRING

Bring yourselves, obvs. Everything else can be left behind. Your handbag, spare coat, packed lunch etc etc, leave them safe in the car as it’s only another thing to carry and get in the way.

FAMILY

DOGGIES

We LOVE dogs; we have our own furry beasts. Of course, bring them along if they’re happy to be off the lead, bumbling around while we shoot. They’re family after all, and we’ll absolutely include them in the photos. Of course, if you feel that it might just be a step too far and cause extra stress, then leave them at home. We want you to enjoy the shoot and get as many beautiful photos out of it as possible. Either way is cool for us.
