The Best Wedding Venues in Derbyshire

AN ICONIC DERBYSHIRE VENUE WITH INDUSTRIAL STYLE
A Grade I Listed, former industrial mill dating back to the early 1800’s. Originally built as a cotton spinning mill, the building played an important part in local history and the Industrial Revolution. Having been empty and derelict for some time, the four-storey building has been lovingly restored back to life with award-winning precision, retaining all of the industrial architecture of the 1800’s.
It’s filled with lots of scaffold boards, handcrafted into furniture and a beautiful curved metal bar. There are Chesterfield sofas dotted around, urban pipework on show and original concrete and brick floors. Honestly, this place looks amazing. So much so that you don’t even need to decorate it that much if you don’t want to.
Inside, think barrel-vaulted ceilings, exposed brick walls and cast iron columns. There’s a stack of period light fittings as well as some of the original panel windows.
If you’re looking for a kind of New York loft-style wedding venue vibe, this is the place to be.
It’s huge too, with a capacity of up to 160 guests. Did I mention it has a no corkage policy, so you can source your own drinks for the daytime and wine for the meal?
It also has its own Mill House for on-site guest accommodation offering 8 en-suite double bedrooms and a luxury bridal suite.
The venue is split over 4 floors. The ceremony takes place on the top floor with views over 3 sides of the building. Then you seamlessly move down the building for each section of the day, so there is no awkward time wasted changing the room around for dinner. The 2nd floor is for the wedding breakfast, and the first floor is saved for the bar and evening reception.
But don’t worry if you need wheelchair or accessibility access, there is a lift to all 4 floors.
With parking nearby, the building is situated in a superb location on the riverbanks, offering beautiful views of the River Derwent.
It’s a truly unique wedding venue and is why it’s
number 1 on our “best wedding venues in Derbyshire” list

Where brick barns meet industrial vibes
Grangefields is one of Derbyshire’s newest wedding venues. A hybrid mix of being a barn-style venue and an industrial wedding venue. It’s pretty much got everything you’d need for your wedding tick list.
You get married in the large ‘Oak Room”, which is a beautiful brick chapel/barn, or if you prefer, you can have an outdoor wedding ceremony. There is a dedicated bridal getting-ready room on site so you can relax before the ceremony without the worry of travelling to the venue in your dress.
Whether you get married indoors or outdoors, the courtyard and its fire pits are the central hub for your drinks reception and cocktail hour.
The wedding breakfast room is something else. It’s a converted Dutch barn. So think of a black, curved tin roof and black corrugated walls. The fully glazed side adds a little modern touch to the traditional barn, letting in a whole stack of beautiful natural light, contrasting nicely with the dark urban walls. With seating for 175 guests on long banquet tables, it creates an amazing atmosphere for your dinner.
For a little added dinner theatre, you can watch the chefs cooking in the theatre kitchen as your food is beautifully roasted on their iconic Cripps BBQs for an intense smoky flavour. It’s steak and roast chicken heaven, but don’t worry, there are lots of vegetarian and vegan options too!

A beautiful purpose build wedding barn with a view
Derbyshire has so many barn wedding venues, but Stretton Manor has to be one of the best. It’s a brand new barn with a big open space, so nothing feels too cramped or compromised by narrow corridors. You can opt to get married outside or inside, and everything is all in one place, so once you’re there, you’re set for the day and can party way into the night.
A highlight is the food there – It’s sooo good, with giant sharing platters of BBQ cooked meats and sides. It really brings wedding guests together at the table and creates an electric atmosphere.
Think floor-to-ceiling glass, exposed timber beams, and countryside views that go on forever. The barn holds up to 140 daytime guests and up to 160 evening guests.
There’s a whole range of accommodation nearby too, from quaint cottages, large hotels, to glamping sites. You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to finding somewhere to stay.
Essentially, it’s a brand new purpose-built venue – A blank canvas ready for you to put your own stamp on and create an individual wedding with your own vibe.

Treehouse accommodation and a victorian manor house
This is a perfect combination where old meets new. The main house has been a staple of the Derbyshire countryside for hundreds of years. It’s a beautiful stone manor house, surrounded by woodland and Peak District views.
A recent addition is the glass atrium for the wedding breakfast. It’s stunning with an art-deco syle bar and indoor olive trees. You can sit and enjoy your wedding breakfast and enjoy the view out over the countryside, whatever the weather. The atrium provides space for up to 150 dinner guests and seamlessly transforms into the dance floor for your evening reception.
The highlight of this Derbyshire wedding venue has to be the woodland hives and treehouses for guest accommodation. They are amazing. Don’t believe me, click here and see for yourself!
The house also has 15 individually styled bedrooms for guests. The food is also amazing there too. Whether you want high-class burgers or fine dining, The Wild Hive at Callow Hall caters for all tastes.
If accessibility is a priority, you’ve got no worries. There are wheelchair ramps leading to all the main areas of the wedding – just don’t roll off down the long driveway after one or two too many martinis.

The beauty of a rustic historic barn
There are so many reasons to get married at The Riding School at Calke Abbey, and it is easily one of our favourite venues. It is a beautiful historic coach house building with rustic exposed brick walls and high ceilings.
It’s a space that you can completely transform into your own. Cleverly sectioned off inside with tasteful draping, you can have your ceremony in one section, your drinks reception in another and still leave room for your wedding breakfast to be set up, so there’s no awkward room turn around.
The fact that it’s a ‘no corkage’ venue, means you can take a road trip to source your own wine and drinks for the daytime.
The Riding School is also surrounded by acres of the beautiful Calke Abbey Estate, so it is perfect for your wedding photos when the time comes.
The sunset is amazing there – It sets on the horizon of the estate with panoramic views over the woodland. Perfect for a romantic walk after dinner or just a few minutes together away from everyone.
It might feel like a big venue as it can hold up to 240 evening guests (160 day guests), but with the clever draping, it never feels like you’ve got too much space.
Uniquely, the Calke Abbey Estate has its own church – It’s super exclusive as they only have a limited number of weddings there each year, but it is exceptionally beautiful and intimate if you love a church wedding and it’s so nice to walk back down the driveway to your reception with all your guests following behind you.

Derbyshire is our home. It’s where I was born and where we’ve built our own house. I guess this is why we love it here so much.

This is why I’ve put together this list of venues to help you find one that suits your style. It’s no secret that we’re spoilt for choice here, so hopefully this has helped a little bit in your search for that perfect venue.
