Bassmead Manor weddings – the history

It’s lovely to do a Bassmead Manor wedding as it’s somewhere we’ve heard of but not been before to photograph. I always like to have a little read up of the venue as I love to know the history behind these amazing places. Turns out that Bassmead Manor has been in the Squire family since it was purchased in 1845 by Sir Peter Squire, who was the Royal Chemist to Queen Victoria and wanted somewhere to grow herbs! Today it’s still a working farm, but some of the barns have been converted into the gorgeous wedding venue you see today complete with medieval moat – nice!

The morning of the wedding

We arrived nice and early as this is a venue we’ve never photographed before, so we wanted to have a good nosey round and pick out some cool locations for later on in the day. We found Natalie in the barns doing last minute bits and bobs with her mum before going over to the bridal suite to get ready!  The bridesmaids arrived and the bubbly was promptly opened and handed out.

Luke and all the guests were gathered in the Rickety Barn for the ceremony as Natalie and her beautiful little girl lead the way down the aisle for the wedding. Then it was time to head out ino the sunshine for confetti, canapes & drinks! Natalie and & Luke made sure to see everyone during their drinks reception, while the kids played with the crazy golf on the lawn, time for a few family photos and some fun & games with the bridal party for the Stop Motion video. The weather was mad – such bright sunshine and not a single cloud in the sky so we left the couple photos till after dinner when the light softened a bit.

Wedding Speeches

Dinner was lovely, Natalie & Luke were kind enough to include us – great food from the Galloping Gourmet – the steaks were great! Then time for speeches which were pretty emotional, it’s not often I photograph the speeches with tears running down my face. They impressed me greatly with what they’ve been through – a very strong couple 🙂

The Evening Reception

After Natalie & Luke had a little down time, we went off to do some couple photos and we had such a laugh as we made the most of the ‘light porn’ as Luke called it – it WAS awesome light! Then time for cake cutting, dancing, a camper van photo booth, pop corn, a sweet stand (made by Luke himself), the band and no doubt a bit of drunken crazy golf 😅

Anyway guys, we had a blast with you and your super cute little family – thank you for making us feel so welcome!! Here are a few of our favourites from the day….
