This was our first time as an Avoncroft Meuseum wedding photographer. Its such a great venue for photography – So quirky. So interesting and the little tin chappel for a wedding ceremony is amazing. We’ve been looking forward to this day for a while…. a wedding at Avoncroft Museum. We travelled down from our photography base in Derbyshire Also our it’s our 700th wedding since starting our business back in 2008, so we’re had lots of great feelz going on that day! The couple were Ellie & Andrew – a gorgeous bride and groom who are obviously able to think outside the box for their wedding day in choosing Avoncroft Museum. It was so lovely for Ellie to be able to go back to somewhere her mum used to take her when they were kids to get married. We were also delighted that Nadia Di Tullio Flowers and Tara Knott Stylist would be working alongside us! The Dream Team! Happy Days!
Bridal preparations
So…. in the morning we were off to Ellie’s sister’s house to see Ellie and her bridesmaids for their bridal preparations. Ellie’s sister and hubby have the most beautiful house and two gorgeous rescue greyhounds – we were very happy!!! Everyone was relaxed, hair and makeup were well underway and Ellie was looking forward to seeing Andrew at the venue. In the meantime, the camper van that they were heading to the venue in, had a completely flat battery!! They managed to call out roadside assistance, a big van arrived just outside the lounge window, got the camper started by a guy in a high vis jacket – all without Ellie even noticing! Happy Days!
A wedding at Avoncroft Museum
Avoncroft Museum is like no other wedding venue we’ve been to. It is a refuge for old buildings, over 30 historic buildings and structures which have been rescued and re-built on the site. From a windmill, to an ice house, a toll house, telephone kiosks and Worcester Cathedral’s fourteenth-century roof and many more. Ellie & Andrew chose to marry in the beautiful ‘Mission Church’ or tin chapel on the site which was rescued from the side of the Worcester and Bromyard road in the parish of Whitbourne, Herefordshire. It was built in 1891. They had a humanist wedding which was very personal and the celebrant was lovely!
As it was a few days after Christmas, it was out into the chilly winter weather for warm mulled wine and canapés. A few photos around the grounds to make the most of the gorgeous buildings while we had the light. Then in for a very tasty dinner. This was our 700th wedding and we were spoilt by Ellie & Andrew as they had included us in their gorgeous 3-course dinner from Amadeus Catering. Thanks so much guys xxx
The rest was history – We danced, partied and had a great laugh into the evening and it was a great way for us to finish our 2019 wedding season.

Avoncroft Museum
Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings is an open-air museum of rescued buildings. These have been meticulously dismantled and then re-built on this site to prevent their destruction. It is set in 19 acres of attractive parkland. These buildings show how the people of the region lived, worked and played over the last 700 years!
Set in Stoke Heath, a district of Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. It includes a wildflower meadow, period gardens, a traditional cider and perry orchard as well as the collection of historic buildings.
In 1967 Avoncroft Museum was opened to the public following the rescue and reconstruction of a medieval merchant’s house from Bromsgrove, and soon became England’s first open-air museum. Then, as now, the priority was to retain historic buildings in their original location. Over five decades, Avoncroft Museum has continued to rescue structures where this had not been achievable and the museum now displays and cares for over 25 historic buildings that range in date from Worcester Cathedral’s 14th-century Guesten Hall roof to a post-second world war prefab from Birmingham.
There’s also the Edwardian Tea Room to treat yourself to a hot drink and some cake during your visit!
The historic buildings
Some of the favourite buildings include an 18th-century cottage, a Medieval townhouse from the mid 15th-century, a tollhouse and a dovecote. Not to be missed is the Windmill. The entire upper structure, pivots on a huge central post. This means that it can be turned around so that its sails always face into the wind. Each pair of sails is attached to the windshaft. As this rotates, it powers a giant cogwheel that turns the millstones inside the mill to make flour.
All of these historic buildings make a wedding at Avoncroft Museum very special indeed!
