Gem & Jim

Gem + Jim at Shustoke Barns

Now for us, this was kind of a last minute booking. Most of our couples book 18 months to 2 years in advance, but Gem & Jim booked us in February for a July wedding. Happy Days!! But with Gem at the wheel, you would have never known she did it with only 4 months notice. She wrote us the nicest email to say ‘hello’ when she first enquired and from that moment, we were hooked! Is it possible to fall in love with a couple after just a few emails back and forth? Either way, we knew it was going to be a great day.

We caught up with Gem, her bridesmaids and her hilariously potty-mouthed mum (we love you Sadie!) at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield – lots of champagne, hilarity and some stuff I just can’t repeat!! Honestly, I’ve learnt new phrases that I’ll never forget… made Ben blush!! 😂 How have we hung out with this many bridesmaids over the years and never heard the phrase, “Party-Tit”. Seriously. Hilarious. Anyway once everyone was ready, it was off to Shustoke Barn for the ceremony. There were some lovely readings and before you knew it – they were Mr & Mrs Mercurio!

Weddings are always full of lots of questions… Will Jim’s brother arrive in time for evening photos? Will we get eaten alive by the world’s population of ‘Jurassic Park’ style mosquitos while doing golden hour photos? What was best man Alex’s “butter” story all about and are we all now going to google “Last Tango in Paris” to find out more…? And is Alex possibly the funniest man we’ve met in ages? Well, it’s a pretty hard YES to all of those!!!

The weather was beautiful, so all the guests headed straight out into the courtyard for drinks and canapés and a few photos. We were keen to leave a lot of the photos till later when the sun had dropped a bit and the light had become softer, so the couple had plenty of time to mingle and enjoy their reception! After dinner, there were some great speeches, heartfelt and lovely from Jim’s dad and Jim. Followed by a very funny best man – we were both laughing out loud!! Such a comical guy!

So after dinner, Jim & Gem had lots more time with their guests. The guys playing many highly competitive and possibly the longest two I’ve ever seen of games of giant Jenga! Then time to cut the cake, toss the bouquet and an ‘all-in’ first dance!! As the sun started to set, we took a little walk up the driveway to make the most of the epic light. Unfortunately, we were also joined by the aforementioned mosquitos, so we didn’t hang around for too long! However, just long enough to witness the most beautiful sunset I’ve seen there at Shustoke. When that sun sets like that, we drop EVERYTHING and head towards it….no questions asked!!

Anyway, we had such a great time with Gem & Jim and totally feel like we’ve made a bunch of new friends  – thanks for such a great day!!
