The West Mill wedding venue, Derbyshire

Derbyshire is full of beautiful wedding venues, whether it’s a tipi in a field or a country house in the middle of the Peak District you’re spoilt for choice. However, until recently, we’ve been missing a cool, contemporary, trendy, industrial wedding venue, the likes of which you only find in London. Cue The West Mill – possibly the most talked about wedding venue in The Midlands at the moment and the home to Lauren and Matt for their awesome wedding!

Lauren & Matt’s Wedding

We arrived to find Lauren upstairs with her Mum and girls having their hair and makeup done, getting ready for the day. Matt was around too. Meticulously making sure his cool geometric frame centerpiece was looking great, before heading off to throw on his suit with Lauren’s Dad and his best man Sam.

With a beautiful ceremony finished, we all headed outside for some drinks with everyone having their own handwritten cocktail jar and a few family photos. The West Mill is one of those wedding venues that doesn’t have a huge amount of ground surrounding it, but it does have a beautiful river and weir just outside. With the trees starting to turn a gorgeous shade of golden, it made an amazing backdrop for some photos and having the lovely Matt and Lauren stood there in front of me together was just the icing on the cake- they’re just so lovely to be around!!

As ever, we could have stayed outside all day photographing everyone having fun, but it was time for some much needed dinner and some speeches. While everyone eats, we like to spend some time wandering around, testing things out and looking for inspiration for new photos at the venue. We noticed that the fantastic Fabric Theatre had changed the upstairs ceremony room around a little and added some amazing fairy lights which we just couldn’t resist using for a couple of photos. Most photographers shudder at the thought of dark winter weddings, but we love it. We love being able to get some lights out and make use of the cool darkness that surrounds the venue in the winter night.

After some sparklers outside, it was time to cut the cake and hit the dancefloor to the party the night away!

Thanks so much for having me along for the ride guys – you are both awesome and all your friends and family are great too! The photos will be a little while we work on them, but here’s a Sneak Peek while you wait! Turn it up and enjoy 🙂
