Wedding at Pimhill Barn

If there’s one thing that you can guarantee about life, it’s that Americans always bring the party!!! This wedding was AWESOME!!

Before I tell you all about the day, let me introduce Shelley and Rob – Shelley is one of the genuinely nicest people you’re ever likely to meet and Rob was like the perfect husband – So in love with her. They were amazing together!

Wedding at Pimhill Barn

We love a DIY wedding and it was obvious how much work they’d all put into the day. The wedding venue, Pimhill Barn looked great. Rob, an awesome landscape gardener, had been busy with his saw, creating little place names out of wood, carvings to sit the cake on and lots of handmade decorative bits and pieces all around the place. Just in case that wasn’t enough of a DIY effort, Shelley’s family hired a big meat smoker and spent all night preparing the dinner, for 250 guests! Yes, the wedding breakfast for 250 people, was all cooked by Shelley’s family. Did I say that there were 250 guests!!!! Such a great effort and was nice to see a bit of the USA brought to this gorgeous, quintessentially English, countryside barn.

Wedding Ceremony

So, once all the girls were ready we headed to the church for the ceremony. In the true spirit of a DIY wedding, there was one more lovely personal touch to their day. Shelley’s father Larry, a pastor in the USA, not only gave his daughter away, but conducted the ceremony too. What a privilege as a Dad, right!? Amazing. They also hired a Gospel choir to play and sing in at the church and the rest of the day which was pretty damn cool. I love it when the church elements of weddings are a little bit more up-beat and live music is the perfect way to do this, especially some gospel.

Back to Pimhill Barn for wedding reception

After the ceremony, lots of ‘confetti’ bubbles and a few family photos, it was time for this food I’d been smelling since arriving that morning. Delicious. I LOVE American pulled meats at the best of times, but this was amazing! Dinner eaten, speeches done, there was nothing left but to cut the cake and dance. Or so we thought…

Rob had decided that he was going to re-work some lyrics into a song and bravely sing it to Shelley before they danced the night away. For a non-singer to get up and do that – massive kudos Rob!

So, there ya go. An amazing couple, lots of fun friends and family and a real sense of togetherness, making this such a fun wedding!!
