The West Mill wedding venue

For us, The West Mill is one of those wedding venues in Derbyshire that is truly unique. It’s got it all – an amazing Grade 1 listed building dating back to the 1800’s and a river just outside as a gorgeous backdrop to photos. It’s also an exclusive use wedding venue so you can have complete privacy on your wedding day. It’s also been amazingly well restored and has a tastefully decorated interior with stacks of character and industrial features. Oh yeah, AWESOME people get married there and that’s where Julia and Richard and their friends and family come in!

Engagement Shoot

So, we met these guys when they came for an engagement shoot in Lichfield to have a bit of a practice in front of the camera in advance of their wedding and it paid off nicely – they were great on the wedding day. So relaxed and natural together and they didn’t seem phased at all by the camera. I think it helps that Julia looked gorgeous in her dress so Richard had someone stunning  stood with him to keep his attention away from having a camera around 😉  Richard, you looked pretty cool too and all that time in front of the mirror was well worth it – the quiff looked epic!!

Bridal preparations

The day started with Julia and the girls arriving with takeaway bagels to keep them going while they were getting ready and working their way through a couple of bottles of prosecco, which definitely helped with any nerves that might have been building – they were just so fun – lots of giggles and fun all morning.

The wedding

After a lovely ceremony and almost a tear from Julia’s Dad, it was time to head outside into the gorgeous sunshine to enjoy some drinks and canapes while we did some photos. We decided to leave a lot of the photos of Julia and Richard until later on in the afternoon as the weather was good and we wanted them to enjoy their drinks reception, and if I do say so myself, it was a great decision as we managed to catch the last bits of golden-hour sunshine before darkness descended and the party got going!

Such a great day, an amazing venue, lovely family and friends and the perfect couple – what more could we want?! Thanks for having us along for the ride guys!

Here’s just a few of our favourites from the day, I could have gone on and on!!!!
