Will & Csaba married!

The beautiful civil ceremony of Will & Csaba at Careys Manor & SenSpa, Brockenhurst in the New Forest by HBA Photography

Will has been a real pleasure to deal with throughout the planning process of his wedding, he and Csaba have put so much thought into the day and it was beautiful! Careys Manor is a lovely hotel in the New Forest, not far from Southampton and is a very popular Hampshire wedding venue. The ceremony was held in the lounge with a huge open fireplace, followed by drinks and photos in the garden. So many great touches; a stunning black and red theme, an unusual and fabulous cake, a photo tree, fireworks in the evening and an Argentine Tango for their first dance. Ben also played the saxophone during their wedding breakfast and then he did the disco for the evening too. They are a fab couple and we wish them all the best for the future!

Will and Csaba had put so much effort into having dancing lessons to learn their Tango so when they asked us to film it we were only to happy. The dance was a complete surprise for everyone except for Will and Csaba and everyone loved it.

Adam & Louise married!

The wedding of Louise & Adam at the Chucrh of St George & St Mary at Church Gresley and The Castle Hotel, Tamworth. By HBA Photography.

We met Adam & Louise back in October 2010, I can’t believe how quickly time passes! We had a lovely day with them, a great service in Church Gresley which we also videoed for Louise as her Nan wasn’t able to attend the day (see the video at the bottom of the page). A couple of photos at the church and then off to Tamworth Castle for the main photos in a very cool Volkswagen Camper Van. After dinner we headed off to Tamworth Snow Dome for some Snow Play – this is something we’ve never done before at a wedding and it was really great fun and a lovely idea! We also did the disco at night for this couple and we had a great day. Here are just a few of our favourites….

Matt & Vicky married!

Matt & Vicky's wedding at Shugborough Hall, Milford and The Polish Club, Stafford by HBA Photography

We met Vicky & Matt (and their lovely dog!) back in August for an Engagement Shoot at Shugborough Hall, so it was lovely to see them again! They are such a a great couple and they had so much fun on the day. Shugborough Hall is a fabulous building on the outskirts of Cannock Chase near Stafford, with an elegant interior and manicured gardens it makes a perfect wedding venue! It was a little cold and wet on the wedding day, but we made good use of the grand steps before heading off to the Polish Club for a great reception. Ben played the sax throughout the Wedding Breakfast and then we also did the disco at night in between the sets of the band, The Cartoon Kings! We really enjoyed ourselves at this wedding, Vicky & Matt were great and all the friends and family were so friendly! Here are a few of our favourites (oh and please notice Vicky’s Vivienne Westwood shoes ladies – very cool!))…..

Jon & Chloe married!

The wedding of Chloe & Jon at St Mary's Church, East Bergholt & Marks Tey Hotel, Colchester. By HBA Photography

As this wedding was in Colchester, we drove down the night before and stayed at the Marks Tey Hotel where  Chloe & Jon were having their reception. An early start to set up all the saxophone equipment and the disco and then off to Chloe’s for the girls preparations! A classic Rolls Royce took them to the 14th century church in the beautiful village of East Bergholt. Then back to the reception for the party! We had a lovely day with Chloe and Jon – we wish them the very best of luck for their future together.

The Perfect Wedding Gift

The perfect wedding gift!

Finding the perfect wedding gift for someone can be a tough job…. What will they like, will it suit their home, will they like it as much as you do? How much do you spend… Too much and you’ll make them feel awkward at receiving such an expensive gift, too little and you’ll look cheap!

We’ve spoken to  a few people recently who have received wedding gifts from friends, family and loved ones… Here are some ideas that they had:

-       Nat received a puppy (Red Setter) from her husband on their anniversary…Conker is now fully grown and is beautiful!

-       Kerry received a gift voucher to get her wedding dress cleaned.

-       Jo had her flowers dried and pressed and mounted into a deep box frame.

-       Steve bought his wife a brand new mustang to drive off into the sunset in.

Our marketing manager Simon and his wife was given a black sheep made of polished coal! What does this signify (black sheep of the family)? Anyhow this then started a long family tradition where the black coal sheep is now passed on to family members as a wedding gift.

We started looking around on the net for gift ideas and wanted to see if we could find anything unusual.. We came across these beautiful frames online spelling out your name in photographs…… We LOVE them! Hopefully these will be on offer in the HBA Photography range very soon!

Great way of using old photos....

Maybe you want something interesting for your new home?

Love these photo frames spelling out various words as gifts

Wedding Day Timings – Blog Post

Timing advice for the wedding day

The amount of time you leave for your photography may not be something that you consider high on your agenda but this really is an important factor if you’re going to get the photos you want. If you want some lovely wedding day pictures then read on!!

Timings will vary hugely depending on where you get married and where you want your photos taking. It also depends on how many guests you have invited and if you are having a receiving line before your meal, and of course, what style of photos you want taking.

It goes without saying that if you want lots of different family groups, lots of bride and grooms photos and then lots of reportage photos too (as most people do) you’re going to need more time that if you just wanted a few quick snaps of your day.

The two types of wedding we’ll look at in detail here are church weddings and civil (non-church) ceremonies.

A church wedding

Say your service starts at 2pm, the ceremony will probably last 45 minutes to an hour, making it 3pm, then say 30 minutes at the church for all your family group images. After a 20 minute drive to the venue and another 30/45 minutes for romantic images and some more relaxed reportage images, you’re then looking at 5pm for the meal (allowing time for your receiving line which will probably start at 4:40). Of course that’s providing nothing runs late and all your guests don’t disappear to the bar!

A venue wedding

For simplicity, lets say again that the wedding starts at 2pm, a civil service only lasts on average 20 minutes so you’ll be ready for some photos by say 2:30pm. Again 30 minutes to run through the groups and then another 30/45 minutes for the two of you and the reportage shots. You could be ready for your receiving line at 4pm.

Of course, we haven’t left any time for mingling with your guests and that’s what we want you to have a think about! Quite often at weddings we’re left with an hour do all the photos and we often feel guilty that you don’t have any time to socialise whatsoever, so its worth factoring in a little time for all your guests to say hello and tell you both how amazing you look!

You also need to take into account the amount of guests you have invited when considering the amount of time to allow. For example a wedding with 35 guests should only take about 20 minutes for the group shots, whereas one with 130 guests could take 45 minutes, providing we can get everyone out of the bar!

Below is an ideal scenario for timings on your day:

Church Weddings:

2pm – Wedding Service

3pm – Leave the church and greet your guests

3:20pm – begin your group photos at the church (space permitting)

3:50pm – Do some nice informal, but romantic photos of you both in the church grounds

4:15pm – Leave for the wedding venue

4:30pm – Arrive at the reception venue for a drinks reception

4:45pm – Maybe have a few additional photos in and around your reception venue

5:15pm Begin a receiving line

5:30pm Sit down for dinner

Non-Church Wedding (all in 1 venue) – If using 2 venues, allow for double the amount of time you think it’ll take to get from one to the other to account for guest getting lost / distracted.

2pm Wedding Ceremony

2:30pm Drinks reception & greet your guests

2:45pm Begin your group photos

3:30pm Romantic photos of you both together in and around your venue

4:15pm Receiving line begins

4:30pm Sit down for dinner

Don’t forget about travel time and accounting for people getting lost on the way if you’re getting married at a different venue to your evening reception. Guests have a habbit of just ‘popping somewhere’ on the way to the reception

All of these timings are just a guide, but from hundreds of weddings worth of experience, the ones where you have left lots of time in between events tends to be the weddings with the least stress, and ultimately you’ll end up with more relaxed looking photos. After all, if you find yourself done with your photos sooner than you expected you have more time to have a drink with friends and family!

Roger & Gemma married!

Roger & Gemma's wedding at Patshull Park Hotel, Pattingham, Staffordshire. By HBA Photography.

Gemma & Roger made a great choice in Patshull Park Hotel – it is a great Staffordshire wedding venue situated on a lake which was great for photography with the Autumn colours in the trees. There were lots of great touches to the day including a cape to keep Gemma warm and some live music for the evening reception courtesy of the Best Man and his band. We got some great shots using a variety of different methods; a stunning sunset, some off camera flash on the jetty, light painting in the dark! To top it all off we even got photos of a famous lead singer when he turned up to the evening reception – not to mention the naked ladies jumping into the freezing lake (the latter are not for publishing!!!) Gemma & Roger are a lovely couple and we had a fun day with them…here are a few of our favourites…
